OUR CREATIVE PROCESS
At Legacy Lens, creativity meets craftsmanship — where artistic storytelling and technical precision come together to transform treasured photographs into captivating video narratives.
Stage 1: Pre-Production & Asset Gathering & Planning
1. Storyboarding & Outline
Consult with the client to define the theme, story structure, and key emotional beats. Determine the order of presentation for each photo, and what text/graphics might accompany it. Structure: Creates the backbone for all subsequent timing.
2. Prepare Photos & Assets
Organize all photos and custom graphics. Edit, crop, and ensure all images are high-resolution and have a consistent look. This is the most time-intensive portion of the entire process. Design and create any specific custom background images and/or unique graphics. Time spent here saves triple the time during editing.
3. Curate, Select & Prepare Music
Analyze possible the background music track(s) to ensure compatibility with the tone, theme and anticipated length of the video. Crucially, analyze the music: mark the exact timestamps (beats, climaxes, transitions) where visual changes must occur. Audio Analysis: Requires listening closely and placing markers in the editing software for perfect sync.
Stage 2: Production (Building the Timeline)
4. Assemble the Rough Cut
Though seldom is a presentation articulated in exact chronological order, sequencing a timeline generally plays a significant role in management of the storyline. We insert the photos on the timeline according to the storyboard/music analysis. Set the duration of each photo to align with the marked music cues (the "cut-to-the-beat" timing). Pacing: Establishing the core rhythm of the presentation.
5. Apply Motion and Panning
We use keyframes to control the movement (zoom-in, slow pan, etc.) of each photo for a visually dynamic feel. Attention to Detail: Requires precise keyframe work to keep movements smooth and purposeful.
6. Layer Custom Graphics & Text
Add custom backgrounds beneath the photo layer. Add and meticulously position all text and graphics over the photos. Layering: Managing multiple elements per frame without clutter.
7. Animate Text and Graphics
Apply complex entrance and exit animations to the text and graphics (e.g., text flying in, graphics subtly pulsing). Synchronize these animations to specific sound effects or music beats. Synchronization: The highest point of complexity, demanding frame-by-frame control to match the visuals to the audio.
Stage 3: Post Production & Finalization
8. Final Polish and Audio Mix
Review the entire video. Perform color correction/grading on the photos for a unified look. Adjust the background music's volume to ensure it doesn't overpower the visuals, and ensure smooth fades in and out. Quality Control: Ensuring visual and audio consistency.
9. Rendering and MP4 Export
Export the finished project to video format. Choose the correct settings (resolution, bitrate, frame rate) to produce the final high-quality MP4 file optimized for the client and the occasion.
PHOTO PREP TIPS
• Curation: Select the most suitable photos on a priority basis, carefully filtering out any that are redundant or not a good fit for the presentation.
• Categorization: Sort the selected photos into two groups: "Essential" (must be included) and "Discretionary" (optional, for consideration of inclusion).
• Annotation: For each photo or group of photos, if known, please compile the following information: the name(s) and relationship of the individual(s), the location, the occasion, and the date it was taken.
• Editing: Basic editing of the photos yourself, before submission, will help ensure your satisfaction and reduce the cost of the presentation. Please be mindful that some additional editing will almost certainly be necessary during development of the presentation. The physical images will never be altered; edits will only be made to the digital copy.
• Delivery: Consider submitting your images digitally to minimize the opportunity for loss of or damage to the physical photographs. Simply scan the images in high resolution and email the .jpeg image files to legacylensllc@gmail.com or save the image files to a USB flash drive. Make certain the scanner glass surface is free of dust, dirt and scratches.
Except under extraordinary circumstances, we are not able to use a photo of a photograph; the image must be scanned or digitized in high resolution. Please remove the photo from the frame before scanning. Photographs and/or digital images should be submitted simultaneously, as a group, rather than intermittently or in batches. The planning process begins immediately upon receipt of the images and staggering the delivery will slow the process and could result in delays and/or increased costs.

However, we’re always happy to provide secure access to actual event videos upon request, or meet with you locally so that you can preview examples in person and get a true sense of our work.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long does it take to compile a video presentation from photographs? The creation process is complex and time-consuming, involving custom design, intricate timing, and synchronization. Many factors influence the overall timeline, including: •The total number and condition of the photographs submitted. •The specific custom requirements of the client for the final video. In general the process requires 1.25 - 2.0 hours per photograph. We strongly encourage clients to plan and submit materials well in advance of the need in order to ensure the presentation is completed in time for any scheduled event.
2. Are the original photos altered in any way during this process? No, original photographs are never altered in any way. Any edits (crops, transparency, etc.) are made to the digital image only.
3. I live out of state. Can you still create a video presentation for me? Yes, absolutely. We regularly work with clients nationwide. Photographs can be transmitted to us digitally or safely shipped via your most trusted carrier. Please note, however, that we are not responsible for any damage or loss to physical photographs while they are in transit or not in our possession. The transportation carrier is responsible for them during shipping, and we require that the shipment be insured by the client against loss or damage. We highly recommend that you scan the photos prior to shipment so that a permanent digital backup exists, should any damage occur. If you are able to do so, it will reduce your shipping cost significantly to ship the images on a digital thumb drive.
4. In what format is the video presentation preserved, and is it compatible with modern technology? The final presentation is recorded in MP4 video format. This is the industry standard and is compatible with a vast majority of modern technology, including tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. For maximum convenience and flexibility, the final product is provided to our clients on a USB flash drive (commonly known as a thumb drive). This delivery method ensures compatibility with nearly every video-capable device available today.
